I love autumn. Coupled with spring, it is one on my favorite seasons. In Denver, the trees all turn yellow, which is different than what I’m used to. I’m used to a few more autumnal colors, but it’s still pretty. Autumn in Denver is an interesting time of the year. It can be 80 degrees one day and snowing later on the same day. It’s something that Denver native’s love about their home town. The fact that you can trick or treat in the snow and BBQ on Thanksgiving.

Autumn is a great time to get family portraits taken. The kids are back in school, the colors outside are beautiful, the weather is still nice, and the photos look good on Christmas cards.

I recently held my first “portrait party.” My friends Whitney and Cheryl hosted an event at a neighborhood park. Families came to the park in half hour increments and had their family photos taken. We did portraits of the kids, sibling photos and family portraits as well. Whitney and Cheryl BBQ’d, the kids played at the park, and everyone had a great time. It was a relaxed, beautiful, family friendly environment. I loved working with the families during the event. The portrait party was a huge success. If you’re interested in hosting a party now is a great time to do it. There are even rewards for hosting a party. Email me for details.

I’ve been blessed to document several life changing events recently. From Bat Mitzvahs to the birth of a baby. The latest additions to the Life Prints section are photos from a c section I attended. In the Mitzvah section you’ll see new photos as well. Both events were beautiful in their own special way.

Photographing the birth of a child is always a wonderful and beautiful opportunity. I consider myself blessed to be a part of such an intimate moment. At the same time, the Bat and Bar Mitzvah celebrations are also incredible. Watching the children and their families celebrate their growth and accomplishments is truly another blessing.

Do you know anyone who is going to have a baby? A Life Prints session would make an amazing baby shower gift. It’s the type of gift that will be cherished and loved for years to come. Right now, if you purchase a Life Prints session, I will photograph the baby shower in addition to the package you chose. Check out the Services section for more information.

I also have openings for Bar/Bat Mitzvah’s, weddings, and any other event you may need documented. Schedule something before the end of 2008 and receive a 10% discount. Email me for details - alainnphotography@gmail.com.

In my own world, I am suffering from website-itis. The website I had designed was supposed to be user friendly. And while it is for the most part, it has its quirks. I am particularly frustrated with it because I have to rely on other people to help me fix it. For the last two weeks I could not add any photos to my other site. Now both sites have stopped putting watermarks on my photos. I feel as if I have worn out my freebie advice, and hate not being able to fix things on my own. It’s very frustrating.

After several years of having the same price for portraits, I am raising my prices. Family portraits are now $150 per session. Each session includes an hour of my time, and a cd with all the images included. Act now for this special offer; get a friend to do their portrait session at the same time and get $50 off of your session. Schedule your family portrait shoots now, before it gets cold, while the leaves are still yellow, and there is no snow on the ground.

Word of mouth is the best advertisement, if you know people looking for photography, I would appreciate a referral.

Enjoy the fall and all it has to offer. Pumpkin patches, Halloween, harvest festivals, jumping into piles of leaves, apple cider, thunder storms, snow flurries, and bright sunny days. It’s a beautiful time of the year.

“‘S àlainn an gille bàn sin ann…!” (”Beautiful is that fair-haired lad over there…”).

Simply Beautiful Photography. That was the first “tag line” I wrote to capture the meaning behind my work. Since then I have watched my portfolio grow - beautifully.

From moments captured during the birth of a child, to those captured during a coming of age ceremony, to a wedding, to the human form and beyond.

Just a few moments etched in my brain…

Cade’s Bat Mitzvah. Cade’s Father Andy was sick with cancer during Cade’s Bat Mitzvah. I remember watching Andy watch Cade with such pride. The smile on his face as he watched her read from the Torah; all her hard work coming to fruition as she flew gracefully through the words she’d worked so hard to master. Specifically I remember Andy leaning on a table listening to Cade read, the biggest grin on his face as his eyes traced his daughters face.

Samantha’s Birth. Sam and Sarah invited the whole world to be a part of Samantha’s birth. Both sets of Grandparents, Aunts, Friends, Cousins, and me. Sarah worked so hard during Samantha’s birth, and when the baby arrived, I’ve never seen such joy. Sarah held Samantha up in the air crying and laughing with joy. Her emotion was catching, and soon there was not a dry eye in the room. After everyone left, Sarah informed me that the family went through a scare. Baby Samantha stopped breathing, and it wasn’t until a nurse popped in to check on the new family that this was discovered. Samantha was quickly brought back to life, but this scare made the birth of Samantha, and the photographs I captured of her birth mean even more.

Driving through the mountains with Kim. Discovering waterfalls and groves of Aspen trees where the sun hit the trees so the leaves glowed. Stumbling upon patches of wildflowers crawling with lady bugs and bumble bees. Discovering a lake with a reflection of a Mountain gracing it’s glassy, blue surface. A spider dropping on Kim - scaring her so badly that she threw her brand new camera, and it broke on the forrest floor.

Photographing the human form; angles, positions, colors, expressions and situations, familiar yet new. Experiencing the beauty of the human body through the lense.

Capturing memories for other people is my business. Relishing them for my self and sharing them with you is my passion. Enjoy.
