Adjective
àlainn (comparative nas/ na b’ àlainne, superlative as/ a b’ àlainne)
beautiful, lovely.
“‘S àlainn an gille bàn sin ann…!” (”Beautiful is that fair-haired lad over there…”).
Simply Beautiful Photography. That was the first “tag line” I wrote to capture the meaning behind my work. Since then I have watched my portfolio grow - beautifully.
From moments captured during the birth of a child, to those captured during a coming of age ceremony, to a wedding, to the human form and beyond.
Just a few moments etched in my brain…
Cade’s Bat Mitzvah. Cade’s Father Andy was sick with cancer during Cade’s Bat Mitzvah. I remember watching Andy watch Cade with such pride. The smile on his face as he watched her read from the Torah; all her hard work coming to fruition as she flew gracefully through the words she’d worked so hard to master. Specifically I remember Andy leaning on a table listening to Cade read, the biggest grin on his face as his eyes traced his daughters face.
Samantha’s Birth. Sam and Sarah invited the whole world to be a part of Samantha’s birth. Both sets of Grandparents, Aunts, Friends, Cousins, and me. Sarah worked so hard during Samantha’s birth, and when the baby arrived, I’ve never seen such joy. Sarah held Samantha up in the air crying and laughing with joy. Her emotion was catching, and soon there was not a dry eye in the room. After everyone left, Sarah informed me that the family went through a scare. Baby Samantha stopped breathing, and it wasn’t until a nurse popped in to check on the new family that this was discovered. Samantha was quickly brought back to life, but this scare made the birth of Samantha, and the photographs I captured of her birth mean even more.
Driving through the mountains with Kim. Discovering waterfalls and groves of Aspen trees where the sun hit the trees so the leaves glowed. Stumbling upon patches of wildflowers crawling with lady bugs and bumble bees. Discovering a lake with a reflection of a Mountain gracing it’s glassy, blue surface. A spider dropping on Kim - scaring her so badly that she threw her brand new camera, and it broke on the forrest floor.
Photographing the human form; angles, positions, colors, expressions and situations, familiar yet new. Experiencing the beauty of the human body through the lense.
Capturing memories for other people is my business. Relishing them for my self and sharing them with you is my passion. Enjoy.
